Mid Atlantic .90 Series Crowns Champs at Atco

Atco Dragway – Atco, NJ – The Mid Atlantic .90 Association crowned its 2017 Champions after an action packed weekend of racing. All three series champions came down to the final day with Race # 10. In Super Comp Amanda Boicesco became the first women champion of the series and the first Father – Daughter duo to win a championship as she joined her father Iggie who is a multiple time MASGA Champion. She did so after the closest competitor Bill Hardifer red-lighted in the 3rd round ending his hope at the championship. In Super Gas, a battle ensued between George Smith, Derek Clark & Tom Goldman. Once the dust had settled for the weekend all three racers held the points lead at least once in a 48 hour period. In the end George Smith and his “Livewire” Camaro would claim his first MASGA championship by defeating Clark in the 2nd round and clinching the championship after a tough semi-final race with Mike Handras. The final class to be settled was Super Street. Martin Ganjoin needed a lot to happen for him to be claimed Champion at days end on Sunday. Sitting in 3rd place and behind by almost 5 rounds to point’s leaded Dom Burgese, Ganjoin was determined to go for the gold. Early exits by Burgese and 2nd place Keith Mayers on Saturday gave him the opportunity he needed and he took full advantage by winning Race # 9 and taking over the points lead. On Sunday, with a crowd watching on Burgese lost in the 1st round and Mayers bowed out in the 2nd round opening the door for Marty. When Rick Mattioli lost in the semi-finals it officially clinched the championship for Ganjoin. All three champions are first time winners of the series and will be celebrated at the annual banquet in 2018.

Championships to be Decided at Atco – Sept 30th & Oct 1st

The Mid Atlantic .90 Association will close out its 2017 season where it all started at Atco Dragway on Sept 30th & Oct 1st. This is a great last season event for racers as it falls right between the Keystone Nationals & Dutch Classic being held at Maple Grove. This way for those attending both the Keystones & Dutch from long distances will have something to do in between events to pass the time and get one last event in before we put a close on the 2017 season.

The point’s battles will also be settled at Atco Dragway and currently they are too close to call. In Super Comp the red-hot Amanda Boicesco rolls her ATI Performance Transmissions Dragster into competition and has about a 4 round lead over 2nd place Bill Hardifer and the W&T Pipeline Consultants rail. Kathy Smulligan, Kevin Scholl & Ash Senft round out the rest of the Top 5 but that could all change as Atco is one of the larger drawls of Super Comp Cars for the year and could result in a 6 round event.

In Super Gas current Division1 point’s leader Tom Goldman also holds the MASGA points lead going into the final two events of the season. Tom will be looking for his 3rd MASGA Championship in his Bullets to Spare II Corvette Roadster but, will have some stiff competition from 2nd place George Smith, Sean Lang & Hank Smith. Tom’s biggest threat may come from 5th place Derek Clark who is still claiming a race and will only be 12 points behind after 1st round on Saturday.

In Super Street Keith Mayers will be looking for his 4th straight championship in the series but, may face his toughest year to date as he finds himself in 2nd place going into the Finale. Currently Dom Burgese holds the point lead by 4 points with Marty Ganjoin in 3rd and the biggest threat is in 4th place and Jimmy Stack. Stack driving the Livezey & Garbinski Dodge has 1 win & 3 final round appearances in only 4 races and will be claiming the final two events which will only put him 18 points behind without any round wins to his credit.

Once again Ladies & Gentlemen we roll into another year of one of the longest traditions on the East Coast for .90 Racing and the Annual Ronnie “Uncle Buck” Harple Pig Roast & .90 Races. This year we will celebrate 24 years of this great event and 5 years since “Uncle Buck” went to the big dragstrip in the sky. If you have never been to this event, you should mark it down on your calendar. We’ve had racers as far West as California attend this event and rave about it on their team website. As you can see from the pics below not only do we have enough food for everyone to eat, we have enough racing also for the .90 racers. Race # 7 of the Mid Atlantic .90 Series kicks things off on Saturday Morning and once the dust has settled for that we will dive into the ATI / W&T Pipeline Consultants Top 8 Shootout, then the fun begins with the pig roast and lantern festival honoring all those who are no longer with us. After, we’ve recovered from all the food we kick things off with Race # 8 of the 2017 season. All .90 Racers are welcomed and if you don’t believe me just ask someone who has attended it.
